Questions: Building Physical Reserves

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series Room To Breathe and talked about "Building Physical Reserves" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. When you heard that the message this week was about our bodies and physical fitness and eating habits, what was your reaction? Why do you think you felt that way?
  2. It may seem like a topic that isn't very spiritual, but the Bible makes it clear that it is. For instance: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30).  "The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body" (1 Corinthians 6:13).  "For physical training is of some value…" (1 Timothy 4:8).
  3. Do those verses change your mind at all about how spiritual of a topic this is? Why or why not?
  4. The Bible also says, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
  5. In that verse, the Bible is saying that if you say yes to Jesus, your body becomes the home of God. The Holy Spirit (God's presence) lives in us, so our bodies become God's temple. How does that make you feel about your body, and about what you do with it and put into it?
  6. In the message we learned about building physical reserves. That when we treat our bodies right we get sick less often and live longer. But when we don't treat our bodies right, we dishonor ourselves and we dishonor God. In what ways is this a struggle for you?
  7. What are some things, physically, that you're doing too much of and need to cut back on or stop altogether?
  8. What are some things, physically, that you're not doing enough of and need to build into your life?
  9. How could our group help you to make some of the changes you need to make in this way?
  10. Accountability Question:  How have you been inviting God into all your decisions?
  11. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
