Verve Haps

History was made at Verve this past weekend:
  • For the first time since our church launched, a local news crew did a story about our church. Channel 8 showed up just before our first Sunday service to interview a few people and get some footage of our service. It's pretty cool that thousands of people who don't know we exist will find out about us through watching the news or reading the story online (and, if you're a Verver, sharing the news article/video with your friends is a great way to increase the likelihood of them agreeing to visit Verve with you). Hopefully many of the people who hear about us decide to visit us in person as they figure out the next steps in their spiritual journey.
  • Continued our I Want A Movie Life series by talking about Wreck-It Ralph. It's a kids' movie, but it totally applies to the lives of adults as we try to find meaning and "be good". It turns out that trying to do good things or earn our righteousness is actually a common way to push God away. God wants to love us because of who we are and who he is, not because of anything we do or don't do. (And, as part of this message, the phrase "fart knockers" was said at least a dozen times. If you weren't at Verve, you'll have to find a recording of it online to see what we mean.)
  • The last couple of months at Verve have been really great. God keeps bringing our church a lot of people who are far from him and skeptical about church, and that is awesome. We exist for people who don't like church, and it's really cool to see people become a bigger part of Verve and take steps closer to God. Can't wait to see what Verve's future holds!
