Verve Haps

Autumn officially started this past weekend, and so did a new Verve series!
  • We like to use pop culture as much as we can, and one of the ways we do this is through a series called I Want A Movie Life. Every year we spend 4 or 5 weekends talking about some of the latest blockbuster movies and what they can teach us about God and our spiritual journeys. This week's movie was The Impossible, a film that provides a perfect metaphor for how God pursues us. If you weren't there to experience it in person, you can listen to the message online (this week's message also featured a "cone of shame" story and a poop story. Good stuff.)
  • For the last couple of weeks we've been doing a little advertising to try to attract people who don't like church. (We've got a couple of billboards up around town, are doing radio ads, Facebook ads, and giving Ververs promotional cards they can use to invite their friends and neighbors to church.) All of this appears to be working, because there were a ton of new faces at Verve this past weekend! It's exciting to see these new people figure out the next steps in their spiritual journey.
  • No matter how much fancy advertising we do, the most common reason people visit a church for the first time is because they were personally invited by a friend. Who is someone you could invite to come to church with you this weekend, and when can you invite them? (Most people have to be invited 6 to 8 times before they'll agree to check it out.)
  • Stoked about our new weekly student ministry that starts this Thursday! If you're a middle or high school student, come on out to Verve this Thursday, September 26, from 6:35 to 8:00 p.m. There's no better place to get to know other Verve students, play wacky games, and learn about God.
