Verve Haps

This past weekend at Verve was really memorable:
  • Our band opened the service with a parody of Nickelback's song "Photograph." It was titled "Instagram" and was all about the ridiculous things people post to Instagram -- plane wings, pictures of feet, etc. At Verve we are big fans of pop culture and we love to have fun with it as often as we can.
  • Speaking of having fun, this past weekend marked the final installment of our on-stage game called Go Big or Go Home. In each service a volunteer from the audience took the stage and attempted to keep four balloons in the air for 60 seconds. Nobody pulled it off, but it was funny to watch.
  • We wrapped up our series called "Bigger" by talking about Jesus meeting Jesus. That sounds weird, but it's more realistic than you may think: We can be Jesus to other people, and other people can be Jesus to us. You see, when we have the chance to interact with people who are looked down on by society, the Bible says that's actually kind of like a chance to interact with Jesus, because he positioned himself on the lowest rungs of the social ladder. And when we help meet the needs of those people, we are Jesus to them, because Jesus was known for helping people who were at low points in their life and who were shunned by most of society.
  • There are a lot of ways you can serve people (and thus be Jesus to them) in your everyday life -- at home, at work, on the road, etc. And one opportunity you have to serve is by volunteering at Verve. There are all kinds of volunteer positions to choose from, and at least one is perfect for you. You can sign up online for a First Serve, which will let you "test drive" a role to see if it works for you. You can do as many First Serves in as many different areas as you want until you find a position that you love.
  • A ton of people have signed up for First Serves over the last couple of weeks, and it's exciting to see them start to get plugged in here at Verve. Can't wait to see Ververs continue to take next steps!
